Drug users who inject drugs normally prefer heroin, but a new study reveals that the use of crystal methamphetamine, which is better known as ice, is steadily rising among them, says Jessica Kidd in a report for ABC.
Significant increase in injected ice use
Kidd cites the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre’s annual survey of illicit drug users in Australia, which states that in the last six months, ice had been used by 61 per cent of IV drug users. The study also points out an increase of 9 per cent over the past 10 years.
The study also revealed that the most significant rise in ice use was registered in Victoria, with 75 per cent of drug users surveyed saying they have used ice in the last six months.
