Price of ice in Australia at $650 per gram
Wynne quotes Chris Dawson, head of the Australian Crime Commission, as saying that the demand for ice, also known as crystal meth, has doubled over the recent years. He adds that in China, ice users pay $100 a gram. The price of ice in Australia, on the other hand, is at $650 per gram.
Dawson also bemoans the fact that we can only expect the supply to keep coming considering the high demand for ice in Australia, coming in “from south-east Asia, China, some from Iran, by air, sea, cargo and the postal service”.
That’s a lot of money to pay for basically a smidgen of the drug, but what’s really disturbing is the fact that Aussie users are very much willing to pay that much for ice. The ice epidemic in Australia is already bad enough with these astronomical prices. We can only imagine how much worse the problem is going to be should the price of ice in Australia fall for one reason or another.
