Number of Aussie Women Suffering Alcohol-related Injuries Rising

Stop alcohol!A report by David Weber for ABC News says a new study indicates that the number of Australian women suffering injuries related to alcohol use or abuse is rising at a rapid rate.

The study, which was conducted by the National Drug Research Institute, also found out that the rate of Australian women suffering alcohol-related injuries is growing much more rapidly than that of men. According to Professor Tanya Chikritzhs, the leader of the research team, alcohol-related harm included injuries sustained in road crashes and violence, both by drinkers and non-drinking victims.

The research also reveals that the rate of alcohol-related emergency department admissions for women on weekends rose over 40 per cent between 2005 and 2012, with New South Wales and Queensland as the worst performing states.
