The growing problem of ice addiction in Australia is the biggest issue being faced by the Australian police, especially when a report concerning its use in the country reveals that more than a million Aussies have actually tried it, according to an article written by Shalailah Medhora for The Guardian.
As many as 1.3 million Australians have tried ice, which is methamphetamine in its crystalline form, or speed, its powdered form, according to the report by the Australian Crime Commission (ACC). The report also found that in the past 12 months, almost 400,000 Australians had used the drug.
The ice trade in Australia is a highly profitable one, with Aussies paying nearly $US500 a gram. This profitability means Australia is a favoured destination among ice manufacturers and traffickers, giving Australian law enforcement a very tough challenge in battling this epidemic.
